The Women's Studies Internship Program at Syracuse University

The Women's Studies Program encourages our students to participate in an internship with a local community-based organization during one semester of your study as an undergraduate at SU.  We now have four community agencies that have made arrangements with us to place interns:

  • Vera House
  • Spanish Action League
  • CNY Labor Federation
  • Syracuse Workforce Development Center

Doing an internship can significantly enhance your educational experience here in the following ways: (1) By bringing the theoretical and analytical work that you do in the classroom into contact with practical realities outside of the classroom, providing a test of the theory's adequacy, comprehensiveness, and relevance; (2) By bringing your energy and education and skills out to the community, to provide critical resources needed in the Syracuse area; (3) By expanding the scope and formulation of questions you might consider important to pursue in your academic and professional life; (4) By preparing you for future careers in fields that can build on your knowledge of Women's Studies.

Doing an internship will earn you 3 credit hours toward your degree.  It will also allow you to pursue specific interests and develop your understanding by writing the final paper for the internship.
